Peru, the land of the Incas and of contradictions. A country with fabulous landscapes, a long ancient history and a lively people. One of the most popular destinations in South America. A trip to Peru is primarily a cultural trip, Thousands of archeological sites are scattered throughout the country, with a history that dates back 10000 years. Peru being the cradle of the Incas empire, a civilization that flourished since 1200 BC and abruptly ended with the arrival of Spanish conquistadors in 1533 AD, the country’s traditions are still kept very much alive. A premier touristic destination the famous Machu Picchu, at an altitude of 2430m on the Peruvian Andes, the Lost City of the Incas has been hailed one of the seven wonders of the modern world since 2007. It is indubitably the most important archeological destination of Latin America and, naturally, the highlight visit of a trip to Peru. Near Machu Picchu there’s yet another prominent historical destination of Peru, Cuzco, which was the ancient capital of the Incas empire. The old town was annihilated by Spanish conquistador Francisco Pizarro. However, the ruins of the Palace, the Sun Temple, and the Sun Virgins’ temple remain.

One of the most impressive sites of the Pre-Incas period, which will astound you during a travel in Peru, is the mystery of the Nazca Lines that cover 50 sq. Km. at the foot of the Andes near the village of the same name. Here you will see geoglyphs in the form of animals and birds. According to locals, there are many scenarios with regard to these forms. They’re either remains of irrigation works or a means of communication between ancient people and civilizations from outer space! No one knows… yet it is an incredible sight.

Another destination that will enchant you during a travel in Peru, is Titicaca Lake, the world’s highest navigable lake, at 3890 meters. Breathtaking landscape, views… You’ll encounter small villages built on poles and people fishing and living in huts. This visit is a unique experience. A journey to Peru brims with thrills, as it lies in the heart of the most diverse region of the world, the Tropical Andes. In addition to archeological sites, there’s a plethora of natural treasures, the deepest canyons of the world, luxuriant green snow-capped mountains and the heart of the Amazonia, Puerto Maldonado. The tropical rain forest, the biggest of its kind.

Last but not least the capital Lima, the city of no rain, its Spanish rule conspicuous, hiding its Indian nature among the lights of an endless row of casinos. The Arms Square (Plaza Mayor or Plaza de Armas), surrounded by the Cathedral of Lima, the Government Palace, the Monastery of San Francisco, and the posh suburbs Miraflores and San Isidro will captivate you.

A journey to Peru is a trip of a lifetime, one worth taking as you’ll also discover why it is considered an up-and-coming culinary destination worldwide!
