Myanmar (Burma)
In old school maps there was a country in Southeast Asia surrounded by China, India, Bangladesh, Laos and Thailand, listed as Burma. Today’s travelers know it by its new name, Myanmar.
This is the contemporary reality in Myanmar, a melting pot for 100 ethnicities and more than 200 languages. Thanks to the harmonious coexistence of the dozens of different ethnic and religious groups of the country, the folk culture of Myanmar is widely varied, with the influence of the age-long Buddhist tradition present in every step.
A loof and mystical, exotic, unknown even, Myanmar has only opened its borders to the outside world in the past 20-25 years and invites travelers from far and wide to discover it. Ancient temples, gilded pagodas, Buddhist monasteries, centuries old stupas, tropical vegetation, floating villages and leafy mountain are the touristic attractions of Myanmar that is “lit up” by Buddhism and the smiling faces of the hospitable locals. Here, you’ll come across praying monks, Buddhist teachers meditating, families strolling and mothers teaching their children how to place their donations on shrines.
